What is involved in the application process?
Applications must be submitted using the online process, which can be started by clicking the “Apply Now” button. You will be asked to provide some basic background information, which will be reviewed by our staff to confirm that you meet the basic eligibility criteria.
Once your profile has been reviewed, we will email you a password granting access to our online application system. The online application will ask you for more detailed information about your academic study and work/internship experience, and any overseas travel.
You will also need to submit an academic transcript, letter of recommendation, and a passport-quality photo. Applications must be completed by Friday, May 7.
Do I need to speak German?
No. The official language of the study tour is English. Your guide will be bilingual and interpretation will be provided at meetings as required. Nonetheless, participants are encouraged to learn some basic terminology prior to departure to help them communicate during free time.
How much is the program fee and what does it cover? What additional costs can I expect?
The program fee of $2050 includes arrangement of and accompaniment to all meetings, all lodging and domestic travel in Germany, breakfast and one additional meal daily, insurance covering accident and illness, and 2–3 cultural outings. The participant is responsible for airfare and airport transfer and a minimum EUR 200 to cover one meal per day and incidentals.
Is the $100 fee paid at the time of application refundable?
Applicants are required to pay $100 toward the program fee at the time of application. Should the application not be accepted, the $100 fee will be refunded.
What type of lodging will be provided?
Participants will stay in budget hotels in double occupancy rooms. Participants not wishing to share a room may stay in single occupancy rooms for an additional fee.
Do I need a visa?
U.S. citizens are able to enter and stay in Germany for up to three months with their U.S. passport. Non-U.S. citizens are responsible for any visa required by the German Government. CDS will provide non-U.S. citizens who need a visa for Germany with supporting documents, verifying their participation in the program. Further details regarding bureaucratic procedures prior to departure and within Germany will be provided to all participants. CDS will assist wherever possible.
Do I need insurance coverage?
All participants must be insured while abroad. Participants enrolled as a student during and after the program can choose to either keep their current U.S. insurance or purchase international insurance through CDS International.
Will I receive school credit for the study tour?
Credit is given at the discretion of each respective college or university. Be sure to speak with a coordinator at your school before departure to arrange proper credit. CDS is able to provide a letter certifying participation in the study tour should the university request it. Contact us for assistance.
